A little or a lot?

                                                  (Matthew 13:33)

We often think that life is full of these enormous events with monstrous changes. The reality is that it’s the little things. Things like making your bed when you wake up or whether you ignored a phone call. Most of the time people are not in a bad mood over an event but a series of events. Just think about it. You wake up, but you’re out of tooth paste. Then you can’t find your socks. The car is low on fuel. Then there is a wreck on the way to work. You missed your morning meeting. By the end of the day with events like this you’re livid. We understand it in that context. Why do we struggle to understand it spiritually. It only takes one “little” sin to cause us to fall from grace. It’s not the day we wake up and come back that it all happened, it’s been happening. The same is true to grow in Christ. It’s not the day it just seems to all work out, it’s those “little” choices to be righteous that makes the difference. A little goes a long way. Think about that this week.

Your Structure

“But  I  discipline  my  body and bring it into subjection, lest, when  I  have preached to others,  I myself  should become disqualified” (1 Corinthians 9:27). It would be best if you worked on creating in your mind mental structures for success. A study was done where  two basketball teams had to shoot free throws. One group went out and shot 100 free throws with something life 30% accuracy. The second group had sat for 30 minutes and visualized making a perfect free throw 100 times. That team went out and shot 100 free throws with 75% accuracy. What is the difference? The mental structure. You can do the same. Paul said, “I discipline my body, I seek to please God.” Just like Paul, we must get in our heads what we will do to be successful in Christ. Work to create Godly mental structures.                          ...

Pride Less Love

Love is not a prideful thing. Love is only sustained through humility. You must be willing to serve and sacrifice for others to love appropriately. The world, full of pride, does not do that (1 John 2:16). When we love the world, we fill ourselves with such pride that humility leaves us, therefore loving is nonexistent in our lives. The Lord hears the humble and answers the humble (Psalmist 10:17). Jesus, who is love, exemplifies true humble love in His life, death, and resurrection (Philippians 2:6-8). Only when we humble ourselves can we love and serve the way God wants us to. When we humbly love, seen in our service, God exalts us (Luke 23:10-12). Only the humble will love the Lord enough to keep His commands and become His bondservant (1 John 5:2; Galatians 1:10). If we are to have and show the love that God so desires, we have to be humble enough to serve, live like Christ, become a bondservant of God’s and walk away from the world. Love has no room for p...

Obedience and Reconciliation

The blessing of reconciliation has been poured forth for all who hear and obey.   Some like to hang their hat on the concept that reconciliation is for all who “hear and feel”. The covenant was made and the sacrifice was given. We must enter that covenant and receive the reconciliation that is given by it the way God wants it to be done. We cannot change it to fit our needs. There are four terms to this covenant reconciliation. Faith in Christ and His blood as propitiatory which come by hearing. (Rom. 3:24-35; 10:14-17) Repentance of sins and repentance towards God. (Luke 24:46,47; Acts 2:38, 3:19,20:21) Confession of the deity and Lordship of Christ (Rom. 10:9-10, Phil. 2:9-11) Baptism (1 Pet. 3:21; John 3:3-5; Acts 8:36-38) Although many would like to argue different this is what God has spoken. Therefore, as God has spoken let it be done.   We must quit trying to transform God’s words to fit our personal gain. We feel based on what we come to learn. We c...
