A Glimpse At Authentic Faith

Job 1:1-22

The faithful man Job desired to please and obey God. God had blessed Job with many blessing for Job was a faithful man (Job 1:2-4 & 9-10). We learn early in the book of Job that God is in control. Even though Satan is free to wonder he still had to come before the Lord (Job 1:6-7). We learn that Satan is wondering to tempt. With that goal in mind Satan ask for permission from God.  Again we are shown that God is in control. James in James 2:19 lets us know that evil recognizes God’s authority, they simply choose not to obey.  They have the choice. God is still in control and when it’s needed He puts evil in its place. God being in control gives Satan permission to test Job.

Job’s faith was strong (Job 1:13-22). All Jobs possessions were lost.  Job morns his loss but still praises the Lord. How? Job understands one simple thing. He knows who is in control. He knows who gives and takes blessings away.  In all of this lament and loss Job did not sin or charge God wrong.
Do we have such an obedient faith as to seek to please God daily?

Do you have such a faith that in the moments of loss you can still praise God?

Do you charge God wrong for things that have happened in your life?  Do you have such a faith that even in the eyes of suffering you can still grasp onto the one who is in control?

Do you submit to God like He is the authority and in control?  Can we have the faith Job had today?

My Thoughts

Think on what is lovely. Let God direct your mind to what is truly lovely in this world. At the very least that tree, flower, and blade of grass that He made and you saw today is lovely. Let Him influence your thoughts every day until you think on what God considers lovely. Then dwell on those things. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom. (Col. 3:16) There will be an overflow of lovely thoughts pour from your mind. Think about how encouraging to others that would be. Think lovely thoughts.

The Quiet Work

“For even the Son of man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45).      We often think that to do big things; then earth-shattering events need to be taking place around us. The Good Samaritan did a big thing, and there was not even a mention of an earthquake. Sometimes the road to success and greatness is filled with little things done right. It’s a road where every brick was placed with care, love, and service. We pursue excellence in everything that we do. We want to be great in the kingdom of God. Everyone does. Jesus says to achieve this we need to be a servant. A servant is a quiet, hardworking, and devoted person. They don’t make waves in the ocean. However, they make constant ripples in the pond. The reason for this being as servants of God, we serve everyone, everywhere, every time. That means we quietly serve everyone, even the unserviceable, undeserving, uncaring, and undesirable. No, it doesn’t bring down buildings and ch

It's A Location Problem

Two men were walking down a street on opposite sides. It began to rain. It only rained on one side of the road. At the next crosswalk, the man who had walked in the rain looked at the other and said, "How are you dry?" he replied with this one word, "Location." We need to understand that location plays a huge role in a lot of things in our lives. Everything from our character to our mental stability is effect by our location. It would make complete sense that where our heart was located would determine how we live. Our treasure is where our heart is. Meaning that what you will live for, work for, die for, and yearn for whatever our heart is set on. As Christians, our hearts should be in God. If it is, the perfect law of liberty becomes the greatest blessing in the world. It turns from a daunting list of dos and don'ts to a beautiful guide to greatness. It's all about where your heart is. Then that leaves us with this question, "Where is your he
